Spink County Daycare Anticipates Grand Opening in August
18 Mar 2026
The first floor of the former Wells Fargo Building is being transformed into a new 6,455 sq. ft. daycare center for Redfield and surrounding communities.
“We have hired NuAge Builders out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota to complete the renovations. Spink County Daycare will have openings for children ages infant to 5 years old and will have a capacity of up to 93 children,” said Redfield Area Development Corporation executive director Gianna Schieffer.
Since the project began in the fall of 2023, there has been a tremendous amount of research, planning, fundraising and collaboration throughout the community.
The project has received support from residents and local businesses including Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, RDO Equipment Co., Community Memorial Hospital, the South Dakota Community Foundation, Redfield Food Center, Redfield Energy, and Modern Woodman.

Almost Half a Million Dollars Raised and Counting
With the goal of providing accessible, affordable and high quality childcare for the community, the Spink County Daycare Board, which includes Macy Stover, Gianna Schieffer, Jordann Hansen and Briana Wager has raised over $414,000 during the last eighteen months.
Donations, grants, and fundraising events have included dueling pianos, a mustang raffle, bottle battles, a grocery grab and a hunting blind raffle. Also in the works is Deuces for Diapers, a play on Chase the Ace.
Next up? Mom’s Market, a unique fundraising event being held on April 18th at the Redfield Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale will feature gently used baby and kids items like clothing, toys, books, nursery items and more, with 20% of all sales being donated to the daycare project. Folks interested in becoming a seller can call 605-450-8460 or email info@redfieldarea.com.
“We currently have $80,000 more funds to raise to cover the construction costs. We are still asking the community to donate funds!” said Schieffer.
With a tentative open date of Monday, August 3, the goal is to open the doors of the Spink County Daycare by the end of the summer with plans to hire a director, full-time, part-time, and after-school staff.
“We will be sharing employment and enrollment information in the near future,” said Schieffer. “We currently have a waitlist for enrollment. Those on the list for enrollment will receive the first opportunity to register their children for childcare. Please follow the Spink County Daycare Facebook page for project updates and fundraising details.”
