A CommUNITY of Fun Awaits You In Redfield This June!

May 22, 2025

Ready for some fun? Redfield is ramping up for the summer season with a few community-wide events that people of all ages can enjoy.

“Redfield will be ROCKING Summer 2025 with a variety of activities that will surely soar to the top of your priority list! Put down the to-do list and take time to have some fun with your family in Redfield this summer!” said Redfield Area Chamber of Commerce director Kim Leonhardt.

Community Wide Garage Sales: Saturday, June 7

Calling all bargain hunters! The Redfield Community Wide Garage Sales are back! Whether you’re on the prowl for antiques, tools, furniture, or clothes, you’re sure to find a thing (or ten!) to love during this fan favorite.

And if you prefer to sell your treasures rather than hunt for more, be sure to sign up by June 2nd to be included on the City-Wide Rummage Sale Map. Registration is only $5, and you can provide a detailed description of what you are selling in order to entice more people to check out your wares. It’s a great time to declutter the things you aren’t using anymore so that someone else can put that item to good use! Click here to register as a seller!

“Treasures await! Stroll the sidewalks and shop ‘til you drop! Sizzling, hot deals at businesses, too! Community maps provided! Plan to spend the day where you’ll enjoy a special fundraiser that includes handcrafted, tasty Indian tacos! Or dine for lunch at a variety of local restaurants! Redfield has it all!” said Leonhardt.

Train Day: Saturday, June 14

All aboard! We hope you’ll join us for Train Day on Saturday, June 14th! Railroad enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to attend from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

You’ll love taking a step back in time and exploring the historic C&NW Railroad Depot. Built in 1914, this once-bustling depot was restored to its former glory thanks to a federal grant received by the City of Redfield in 2002.

And did you know that the line from Huron chugged its way into Redfield beginning in 1891? Up until the early 1960s, you could still hitch a ride on a passenger train before the rail service was discontinued.

But you can still enjoy the grand ambiance of the red-bricked depot that serves as a visitors center. Inside, you’ll find a mesmerizing collection of railroad artifacts that includes lanterns, ephemera, and signage as well as a fabulous, active, operating model train display.

During Train Day, you’ll also be able to enjoy barrel train rides, photo ops, goodie bags for the kiddos, and motorcar rides on Agtegra rails.

“The nostalgia of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Depot in Redfield is unmatchable! Take time to enjoy this timeless treasure with your family on Train Day, June 14th! Capture this memory-making experience that is truly legendary!” said Leonhardt.

Admission to Train Day is free, but donations are greatly appreciated! For details, contact the Redfield Area Chamber of Commerce at 605-472-0965.

Redfield Carnegie Library

Still providing library service to the citizens of Redfield, the Redfield Carnegie Library has the distinction of being the oldest Carnegie in continuous use as a library in South Dakota.  The Redfield Carnegie Library began as a reading club with members buying books to circulate. A $10,000 endowment from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation was awarded in March 1902.
