Childcare is Crucial to the Economy

Monday, November 18, 2019

Access to affordable, quality child care is important for the economy. It increases parent participation in the workforce, which translates to economic growth. It also helps prepare children for school and eventual work.

In the last two years, Congress approved additional child care funding for the states. South Dakota had a $5.5 million increase, which gives the state an opportunity to enhance the quality and access of child care options for low-income families.

A recent study showed that the childcare industry has a $279 million impact on the state’s economy. Learn more about the economic impact of the child care industry on South Dakota.
